October in the U.S. is the National Down Syndrome Month. It aims to raise awareness about the nature of Down Syndrome and encourage people and society to not treat persons with Down Syndrome as human beings, rather than disabled.
Down Syndrome is a naturally occurring chromosomal arrangement that has always been part of the human condition and exists everywhere in the world. Today people with Down Syndrome can be found throughout society, including in high profile careers like acting and film.
This month celebrate the possibilities rather than limitations of life with Down Syndrome and seeks to educate the public about what it is and is not.
